More About Mrs.Avent:

Gail Avent is the Executive Director and founder of Total Family Care Coalition, a family-run organization in SE, Washington DC.  Ms. Avent started a grassroots peer-to-peer program providing family and youth in-home supportive services.  TFCC has evolved into a consumer-operated Operated Center.  Ms. Avent is a community leader on the Early Childhood Innovation Network team with Children’s National Health System.  She is leading the efforts to develop a Parent Council.  Ms. Avent also participates in the Department of Health project as a trainer and training developer. Ms. Avent is the recipient of a Federal Statewide Family Network grant from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA).  In her position, she is responsible for the overall operations of her organization and acts as the District’s Lead Family Contact to ensure advocacy for families and youth through the implementation of a System of Care (SOC) for DBH. Ms. Avent partners with DBH to develop certified family and youth peer support worker training and serves as committee chair on DBH’s Peer Certification Committee.   Ms. Avent is passionate about her work. She holds a Bachelor of Criminal Justice Degree from American University, a Juris Doctorate Degree from Antioch School of Law, and a master’s in business administration from Strayer University. Gail is also a graduate of Georgetown University Leadership Academy. Gail is a faculty at Georgetown University. School of Continuing Education, Family Leadership Certificate program.
