Vision:
Total Family Care Coalition (TFCC) believes that families can sustain a better quality of life when given hope, understanding, respect, time and guidance as they explore options for gaining effective support and services.TFCC seeks to provide advocacy and support for the District of Columbia for every family navigating emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges.
About TFCC:
The Total Family Care Coalition (TFCC) is the leading provider of family advocacy and support to parents of children and youth with serious emotional disturbances in the District of Columbia. We specialize in empowering youth with serious emotional disturbances to advocate for their own care plans.
TFCC works closely with families to help them overcome their obstacles. Our trained peer support workers, our teachers and our staff are all determined to help families, youth and individuals find solutions to the varied problems they are facing. We focus our efforts on strengthening the family structure and creating the unity that helps bring about lasting and personal change for our clients. Every day, we work side-by-side with our families, youths and communities to make sure that we’re doing our best to assist with their needs. We’re here to help our clients grow and thrive, regardless of age, background or income.
Our mission statement aligns with SAMHSA’s Recovery Support Strategic Initiative as well as wraparound principles and the National Federation of Families’ philosophy, and reflects TFCC’s commitment to empower families and youth. TFCC is designated by the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) as the family leader in system transformation and was incorporated as a not-for-profit, family-driven, family-focused and family-run 501(c)3 organization in 2005 by a group of parent and other primary caregivers who have raised children with emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs.
Our impact is felt everyday. Each moment we carry out our mission and purpose, we’re breaking the cycle of hardship with life-changing educational and family strengthening programs.
Our Approach:
We have a dynamic and distinctive home-grown approach, using peer support to connect with youths and parents through our shared experiences. We seek to keep the family structure together wherever possible, so we focus on improving relationships within the family and keeping youths out of the system. Our direct support to parents, youths, families and communities helps to strengthen these bonds and create a better quality of life for all.
